Why don't we use permanent toners on your hair instead of semi permanent?

I bet you’ve thought this once or twice, or every time your pastel colour or grey/silver toner washes out of your hair.

Well I’m going to explain.

When hair is bleached, it is basically being destroyed from the inside out. I know that sounds harsh but that’s exactly what it does.

So when hair has been put through the lightening process at your appointment, it is in a very porous, sensitive and delicate stage.

If you imagine that when hair has been bleached, the strand has lots of holes in it, like a net.

Different colours sit in different parts of the hair.

Permanent colours go inside the net but over time they will escape through the holes therefore causing colour to fade fast. They are also alkaline so lift the cuticle even more to get inside to deposit the molecules of colour.

Semi or Demi permanent is more gentle for the hair after its been through a lightening process. It also has a lower ph level, they’re acidic which means it is kinder to the hair and doesn’t open the cuticle as the molecules sit outside of the net and in theory will last longer as they cannot escape as fast. Also they tend to shine more which is a bonus!

Just because a colour says its permanent it doesn’t mean it will stay more permanently in the hair.

When we’re deciding what colours are best to be used on your hairs, the most important factor is the condition and texture of the hair.

It isn’t one colour suits all.

Sometimes we do use permanent but in this case I’m explaining why on your bleached hair we will tend to use semi or demi.

Hope this has been helpful!

Leave me a comment if it has or if you have any questions :)
