Frizzy hair occurs when the outer layer called the cuticle is lifted. This allows moisture to get inside causing the hair to swell and appear frizzy and fluffy.
When hair is dry or damaged from colour or excessive heat use, it needs more moisture to improve its health so grabs onto any moisture it can which tends to be humidity and dampness in the environment, which as a result causes more frizz and fluffiness.
In order to avoid frizz, you need to keep your hair hydrated by using moisturising products like shampoo, conditioners and leave in conditioner/creams or oils. Leave in conditioners, creams and oils act as barriers preventing moisture from the environment getting into the cuticle.
You should avoid products containing alcohol as that can worsen frizz and dry your hair out more.
Excessive heat use on the hair also worsens frizz. Keep heat appliances to a minimum, use low temperatures and always use heat protector when using.
You should avoid rubbing the hair with a towel as the friction worsens frizz.
Lastly you should make sure to get regular trims to minimise the amount of split ends as they can contribute as well.
